Winter is upon us, and it's pruning time at Jester Hill Wines! As the vines rest, we prepare them for a prosperous season ahead. Pruning is essential to ensure the health and quality of our grapes, which means better wines for you to enjoy. Why Does Pruning Matter? Healthier Vines: Removing old growth helps prevent disease and pest issues. Better Quality Grapes: Pruning ensures the vines concentrate their energy on producing the best fruit. Optimized Growth: Properly pruned vines result in more consistent and manageable growth patterns. How Do We Prune Our Vines? Our skilled team carefully trims each vine, removing excess shoots and dead wood. This meticulous process sets the stage for a

Wow first blog for 2023 and what a year it has followed. How is it already February? April 2022 saw Granite Rockin' Blues entertain in excess of 250 people and raising $2,500 for our local Queensland Rural Fire Service. We are so looking forward to our 2023 Granite Rockin' Blues which is being held on Saturday 22nd April and featuring some brand new talent. We welcome the infamous Cigarny Weaver Gypsy Jazz and our local Mitch King. Of course our ever popular regulars, Cole Train and Blues Dogs will assist in entertaining you from 11am to 6pm.  Winter and Spring saw plenty of rain, only drying up enough a week before our daughter, Shannon's wedding on 12th

From a motorcycle ride in 2010 to the prestigious Samuel Bassett Award in 2022. We, Mick and Ann Bourke, set off for the Granite Belt on our motorcycles in March 2010. Little did we realise that 9 months later we would be the proud owners of Jester Hill Wines. Another characteristic we use to measure whether or not the process is complete is berry hardness. Up until now, the berries are very firm. Once they get through véraison, the berries are pliable and can be deformed when squeezed between the thumb and index finger. This elasticity is one of the only

A wine that is memorable has made its mark. As with an unforgettable human being, a feature or a personality facet is the trigger for the rest of the character to reveal itself. If you want to remember wines, you will. If it is important to you to recall wines, you will do so. Once the habit starts, it’s irreversible.

The Granite Belt region has a growing reputation as one of Australia’s top producers of alternative variety wines – known here as Strange Birds. To be called an alternative, a variety must represent not more than 1% of the total bearing vines in Australia as defined by Wine Australia. Wine-tasting the cellar doors of the Granite Belt is a unique wine experience, where you’ll encounter exciting varieties, that pair very specifically to ideal foods. The wineries of the Granite Belt offer a boutique and authentic wine experience, where in many cases the hands that pour your glass are the same that tended the vines and made the wine. Certainly, each bottle has
